An early start beckons for this mammoth journey. It was my first trip on an excursion of this nature and the family and I set the alarm for 5.30am. The train leaves Kings X at 7 but on this occassion was slighlty delayed. Hot tea and coffee welcomes you on board and the smell of the famous BR breakfast starts to wake you. Soon the 'full monty' appears with as much toast, jam and marmite as you can eat.````The journey trundles up the east coast picking up various passengers on the way. This gives a chance to relax,read the papers and most importantly - consider the lunch menu. Eventually the train winds through picturesque York, the industrial north east and along the coast before diving in to Edinburgh.````A four hour stop is long enough to enjoy a quick walk round the city and enjoy the delights of the castle and shops. The train leaves again at 4ish and it isn't long before the bloody Marys were being served. As the train zips along the coast the bwaiters start to prepare what can only be described as an awesome meal. 4 courses which could have come from one of the west ends finest kitchens. The staff are cheery and efficient and the entire journey home allows you to sit, wine and dine and watch the wonderful scenery fly by.````You eventually arrive back at 10ish and a taxi ride home left me exhausted but refreshed. It is a long journey but great fun. A great chance to catch up and do something completely different. Well done Hertfordshire
